We put a big focus on TR on roleplay, often referred to as RP. This page should serve as a guide to some of the concepts involved in RP here on Temporal Rifts.

Story of Temporal Rifts

Every world has its story. This is ours.

Worship and Religion

In addition to the myriad of religions defined in help rp_religion as a basis for structured worship on Urth, we also have a system of Immortal worship Some of the general religions are aimed at specific races or groups, and can be used as part of a player's personal or family rp. Immortal worship is where mortals choose to worship a deity of the immortal staff. Each participating Immortal has a particular interest or pursuit, and will accept followers on the basis of their whims. Click here for more information about worshipable gods.

Methods of Roleplay
  1. RPnotes: We have a note system here on TR. Many people who roleplay use the RPnote board to post IC letters, backgrounds, journals, travel logs, stories, etc. Those rpnotes which are meant for all characters to know IC will be prefaced with the tag [Public]. Those rpnotes which are posted merely for the OOC enjoyment of others will be prefaced with the tag [Private]. If rpnotes have no tags, they will be assumed to be for public IC consumption.

  2. Gossip/RP Channel: Many people prefer to roleplay over the gossip channel. People talk about many things on the IC channel, from insulting banter to light jest, from death threats to romance.

  3. Says, Tells, and Emotes: The standard assumption is that unless a character prefaces their says, tells, or emotes with 'OOC', they are speaking as their character.  On the who list people have [IC] and [OC] tags by their names which indicates their 'In character' or 'out of character' status.  You can switch yours from IC to OC by typing:  roleswitch, or role for short.

  4. Descriptions and Equipment: Many people set up descriptions for their characters which reflect their In-Character appearance. To see someone's description you can type: look charactername, or finger charactername if they
are online but not in the same room. Other players will have their equipment restrung to fit their character's persona. (For instance, an elf might rename his Rifle: a Longsword.)

Clans

Clans are one of the major forces of RP on our mud. Each clan has at least one level 301 leader, who oversees the clan's OOC and IC functioning. Clans work towards certain RP goals, many of which affect roleplay outside of their own clan base. They often RP on clan channels, and work together to save up RP tokens to build clan halls. There are advantages and disadvantages to joining a clan on TR, but it is a definite commitment. Once you join a clan, you must RP.
Available clans:
[Orphan]
[
SaVagE]
[
Gypsy]
[
Roma]
[
AnoInted]

We also allow RPers to attempt to form their own clans on Temporal Rifts.

Noble Houses

Noble Houses is rp based on who you are and who your friends are. Family lineage, the pursuit of economic and strategic interests, and the claiming of land are but a few of the concepts involved with this area of roleplay.

Marriage

The institute of marriage is a common theme within many players' rp. In addition to the standard two person marriage, polyamory triads are also available.
